The first Filipino-American was ordained a bishop in the U.S. Catholic hierarchy this past Tuesday in the LA Archdiocese. However,
Bishop Oscar Azarcon Solis is not the first Asian to be episcopated in the States. That title goes to
Bp. Ignatius Wang of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Both are foreign born, immigrating to the US after their respective ordinations to the priesthood. It'll be a long time before we're able to put a mitre on a native-born Asian-American Catholic. Just ain't enough of us out there.
